Denture Problems and Solutions
If you have lost all of your teeth, then you may be someone who has chosen to wear dentures. While wearing dentures can have many benefits to the aesthetics of your mouth and face, there are some common problems that most denture-wearers tend to experience. Here are some common issues with dentures, as well as some solutions to these problems.
One of the main problems associated with dentures is that they can adjust in how they fit your mouth over time. This happens because your gums and bones change with time. If your dentures do not fit as well anymore, it can be tempting to try and adjust the dentures yourself. However, you will need to see a dentist to get them properly adjusted or replaced. Dental adhesive is a good tool for helping dentures fit over your gums, but only for dentures that fit properly. Using dental adhesive to try and force dentures that do not fit can cause additional complications.
Another problem that can occur while wearing dentures is bad breath. This is mostly caused by failure to take care of the dentures properly. Dentures tend to attract bacteria, and they need to be cleaned daily. Soaking your dentures each night in a denture cleaner is highly recommended for doing this. You can also use plain soap and warm water to clean your dentures. Avoid using toothpaste, though, as it can be too abrasive for your dentures.
Another issue for new denture- wearing people is the slight trouble in speaking. The best solution for this problem is speaking more slowly. Also, patience can go a long way in straightening out this issue.
